Ready For Reunion—2015 in Chicago
CHICAGO, IL—Time is advancing ever so quickly and bringing us closer to the date that the family gets together in joyous reunion. It usually occurs in one of our favorite cities around the country and 2015 is no exception.
Our next Cornute reunion, “Ubuntu: Cornute Family United and Growing”, will be held in Chicago, Illinois July 30 — August 2, 2015 and we look forward to welcoming all of the family to the “Windy City”.
Chicago buzzes with energy and excitement all year long.
There are a million places to visit and things to do in Chicago. Seriously, a million. From the towering skyscrapers, shopping and dining of the Loop to the colorful mosaic of neighborhoods that make up the city. You can explore the depths of the ocean at the Shedd Aquarium. Visit the Field Museum of Natural History, one of the largest natural history museums in the world. Catch a fly ball at Wrigley Field. Take in a show at The Chicago Theatre. Ride the Ferris Wheel at Navy Pier. Bike ride along the lake. Just to name a few.
Visit the country’s first independent museum dedicated to the history of African and African American culture, the DuSable Museum (740 E. 56th St.) has developed into one of Chicago’s principal cultural institutions. This Hyde Park staple boasts more than 15,000 artifacts and includes priceless paintings, sculptures and historical memorabilia.
While in Chicago we hope the family will get a chance to visit the “Lovana S. “Lou” Jones/Bronzeville Metra Station” at 35th Street and LaSalle Street along the Rock Island line.
The station was dedicated to the Honorable Lovana S. Jones, who served in the Illinois House of Representatives, on May 6, 2011.
Lou passed away in 2006 and was the 2nd great granddaughter of Tate Cornute.
We expect a huge turnout at this reunion as we have connected with many new family members over the past couple of years.
Logistically the itinerary is still tentative but the banquet hall has been locked in at Orland Chateau, at Orland Park, Illinois. With a newly renovated foyer, banquet room, and outdoor terrace, Orland Chateau provides the ideal setting for our reunion.
The hotel is set for the Comfort Inn and Suites also at Orland Park. It is close to Interstates 80, 55, 57, 294 and 355 in the southwest suburbs of Chicago and is minutes from Chicago Midway International and O’Hare International airports. Orland Square shopping mall is also close by.
The tentative itinerary is as follows: Thursday, July 30 – Fish Fry for those in town; Friday, July 31 – Free Day – Meet & Greet; Saturday Morning, August 1 – Family Pictures; Saturday Evening August 1 – Banquet / Family Feud Game; Sunday, August 2 – Mini Picnic – Fun day for the kids.
