Russell E Hairston Sr. Receives 2014 Ohio Conference of Community Development (OCCD) President’s Award
CINCINNATI, OH—Russell E. Hairston, Housing Division Manager, Department of Trade and Development, City of Cincinnati, Ohio accepted the 2014 Ohio Conference of Community Development (OCCD) President’s Award for Innovative Practices while being honored at their Annual Summer Banquet held July 30, 2014.
On April 22, 2014 the ribbon was cut at Alston Park, located at 313 Glenwood Avenue in the Avondale Community, Cincinnati, Ohio. This 39 unit apartment community has been completely transformed from a neighborhood eyesore to a community asset.
This successful renovation received the prestigious 2014 OCCD President’s Award for Innovative Practices which states, “The City and its many partners are commended for this innovative project which revitalizes and preserves affordable housing in the Avondale community. The project reflects outstanding performance in addressing significant need, multi-funded collaboration and community involvement.”
Russell Hairston, Housing Division Manager, said “the Department of Trade and Development continues to look for innovative, and transformative projects that benefit all segments of Development including Market Rate, Affordability, and extremely Low Income”.
Russell is the son of Hortense and Edward Hairston and 2nd great grandson of Tate Cornute.
